Security Forces Foil Kidnapping and Extortion Plot in Manipur; Five KCP Members Arrested
Northeast, July 14, 2024: In a significant operation, security forces thwarted an attempted kidnapping and extortion plot, leading to the arrest of five members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) Nongdrenkhomba Group in Kakching Khunou.
The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Soibam Lanchanba Meitei (25), Soibam Manoj Singh (27), Heisnam Dipak Meitei (39), Nameirakpam Nelson Singh (20), and Nongthombam Leishemba (23). They were allegedly planning to abduct an individual for ransom, according to local authorities.
During the operation, security forces confiscated a number of items from the suspects:
- Two pistols, each equipped with a magazine loaded with five live rounds
- Three mobile phones
- Three camouflage uniforms
- One Bolero vehicle without a license plate
A case has been registered, and further investigations are underway to uncover more details about the plot and the involvement of the arrested individuals.
