Assam Railway Police Seize Suspected Burmese Supari Worth Over Rs 20 Lakh

Guwahati, 15th July: Assam Railway Police have made a significant seizure of suspected Burmese supari valued at over Rs 20 lakh at New Bongaigaon Railway Station. The operation, conducted on the Rajdhani Express, resulted in the confiscation of 90 items of contraband. Acting on intelligence from undisclosed sources, the police carried out the raid.

The origin and intended destination of the seized supari are currently under investigation.

Earlier, on June 13, Srirampur Police, under the direction of Sonaram Musahari, intercepted a 12-wheeler vehicle during a raid in Shimultapu. The operation revealed forty bags of Burmese supari concealed in a hidden compartment of the truck with registration number AS 11BC 0722. The truck, traveling from Howly to West Bengal, was seized, and the supari confiscated, estimated to be worth over Rs 25 lakh on the market.

Zahirul, the truck’s driver, and Rafiqul, his co-driver, were arrested on suspicion of smuggling and are currently in police custody pending further investigation.
