Power Restored in Upper Assam After Grid Collapse Affects Five Districts

Guwahati, 16th July: A power outage affected five districts in Upper Assam and parts of another on Monday evening due to a “grid collapse,” an official reported. The gradual restoration process began promptly, leading to full power restoration later in the evening.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the complete restoration of power via a post on X, stating, “Power transmission through the Grid station in Mariani has been restored. Consequently, power supply has been reinstated in Upper Assam.”

According to a source at Assam Electricity Grid Corporation (AEGCL), the outage occurred around 7:50 PM, impacting the districts of Jorhat, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia, as well as parts of Golaghat beyond Kaziranga. The source mentioned that restoration efforts were still ongoing in a few pockets where minor errors persisted.

This swift response underscores the efficiency of Assam’s grid management and the commitment to minimizing disruptions for residents across the affected areas.
