Coordinated Operation Identifies 60 Myanmar Refugees in Manipur
Northeast Desk, 17th July: In a joint operation by state and central forces, 60 Myanmar refugees were identified in Govajang village, near Border Pillar 80 in Moreh, Manipur. The operation, conducted on July 15, involved personnel from the state police, Assam Rifles, and Border Security Force (BSF).
Led by Moreh Additional SP (Ops) Md Riyajuddin, the early morning operation verified 280 individuals, with 60 confirmed as refugees who had crossed over from Myanmar.
Sources indicate that Assam Rifles had already collected biometric data from the identified refugees, though this process reportedly occurred without the involvement of state representatives, highlighting potential coordination issues between central and state authorities.
The Tengnoupal district police are planning to conduct their own biometric recording of the refugees. The identified individuals will be required to report to Moreh police station for further processing.
