Manipur: Dhanamanjuri University Crisis Poised for Resolution as Key Appointments Expected Today

Northeast Desk, 18th July: The prolonged staffing crisis at Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) may see a turning point today with the anticipated announcement of the new Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and Controller of Examinations.

An emergency meeting of the DMU Syndicate is set to take place at 11:00 AM on July 18 in the university’s Conference Hall. The meeting’s agenda includes discussing the declaration of results for the recruitment of various teaching and non-teaching positions, a move expected to address the pressing staffing shortages.

Since July 9, DMU students have been on a hunger strike, demanding the appointment of essential administrative and academic staff. The protest, initially held at the university’s administration block, has been relocated to the community hall of Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai to garner greater public attention.

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Manipur unit has expressed strong support for the student protesters. On July 17, NSUI National Secretary Mohamad Kabi Rahman joined the protest, highlighting the difficulties faced by students due to the staffing crisis and affirming that the protest would continue until the demands are met.

The outcome of today’s Syndicate meeting and the subsequent announcements are critical in resolving the staffing crisis at Dhanamanjuri University and addressing the students’ demands for a functional administrative and educational framework.
