Assam Vigilance Directorate Nabs Two Officials in Bribery Cases

Guwahati, July 18, 2024 The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, apprehended Nurul Hoque Barbhuiya, Patwari of Sadar Circle, Cachar, Silchar, while he was accepting a bribe in his office. The bribe was linked to the payment of compensation for land acquired for road construction.

This arrest follows the recent apprehension of Sub-Inspector Fazail Haque of Fakirganj Police Station in Dhubri by a CM Vigilance team on July 15. Haque was caught red-handed during a raid at the police station, following allegations of bribery.

The raid was triggered by a complaint from a victim who claimed that Haque had demanded Rs 30,000 to settle a case. The CM Vigilance team set a trap, leading to Haque’s arrest as he accepted an initial payment of Rs 8,000.

Sub-Inspector Fazail Haque is currently being interrogated by the CM Vigilance team to gather more information about the bribery allegations and his involvement.

These incidents highlight the ongoing efforts of Assam’s Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Directorate to root out corruption and ensure accountability among public officials.
