Broken Spy Drone Raises National Security Concerns in Arunachal Pradesh
Northeast Desk, 19th July: A broken spy drone, identified as a radiosonde, was discovered in the hills of Tirbin Circle, Leparada District, Arunachal Pradesh on July 19, 2024. The discovery, reported by locals, has raised concerns over national security.
According to officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the radiosonde was launched from the Mohanbari weather station, specifically from the Jalpaiguri station, to collect upper-level weather information. The device measures critical meteorological data, including temperature, pressure, and relative humidity, as it ascends.
The radiosonde is a crucial tool for upper-air observation, providing data on atmospheric conditions up to 35 kilometers above the Earth’s surface. This information is essential for accurate weather forecasting and climate change detection.
While the purpose of the radiosonde is for weather observation, its discovery in a sensitive border region has raised concerns about potential security implications. Further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the drone’s crash and any potential security breaches.
