Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Announces Second Edition of Amrit Brikshya Andolan

Guwahati, July 19, 2024: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has unveiled plans for the second edition of the Amrit Brikshya Andolan, set to take place from August 1 to 15. Reflecting on the success of the inaugural event launched on September 17 last year, Sarma highlighted its achievements, including the distribution of saplings starting September 12 and the establishment of 10 Guinness World Records.

The initial Amrit Brikshya Andolan saw the plantation of 1.12 crore saplings, boasting an impressive 90 per cent survival rate. This year, the State Forest Department has significantly increased its efforts, preparing 4 crore saplings for the initiative.

Sarma emphasized the importance of the Andolan in promoting environmental conservation and sustainability across Assam. “We aim to build on last year’s success and make an even greater impact this year,” he said. “The Amrit Brikshya Andolan is a crucial step towards a greener and more sustainable future for our state.”

The event is expected to mobilize communities across Assam, encouraging widespread participation in tree planting to enhance the state’s green cover and contribute to global environmental efforts.
