Assam: Barpeta Police Crack Down on Drug Peddling

Barpeta, 20th July: In a significant breakthrough in the anti-drug campaign, Barpeta Police, under the leadership of DSP H.Q. Barpeta Jitesh Barman, conducted a successful raid on Friday night. Acting on precise intelligence inputs, the operation was carried out near the Polytechnic College in the city.

During the raid, police apprehended Nitul Kalita, a drug peddler from Gajia, Barpeta. The operation led to the seizure of three cases of narcotic drugs, weighing approximately 33 grams. The market value of the confiscated drugs is estimated to be over Rs 2 lakh. Additionally, a TVS bike, bearing registration number AS 15 U 5602 and used by the peddler, was seized.

Kalita is currently undergoing interrogation as the police pursue further leads to dismantle the drug network in the area. This raid is part of a broader strategy by Barpeta Police to combat drug-related activities in the district.

Since the appointment of Sushanta Biswa Sarma as Superintendent of Police, the Barpeta Police have ramped up their efforts to eradicate drug abuse and trafficking. SP Sarma has highlighted the crucial role of community involvement in this initiative and has called for the cooperation of local residents to help eliminate the drug menace and restore social order in the district.
