Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Criticizes Jharkhand Government Amid Police Clash
National Desk, 20th July: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) government on July 20, accusing it of poor governance and mishandling public and police issues. Sarma’s comments followed a violent clash on July 19 between regular police and contractual Sahayak Police in Ranchi, resulting in at least 20 injuries.
Sarma, who is also the BJP’s in-charge for Jharkhand, condemned the state government’s handling of Ram Navami celebrations. He alleged that while the government permits Muharram rallies, it denies permissions for Ram Navami events, which he described as evidence of mismanagement and discrimination.
Visiting the injured police personnel at RIMS Hospital in Ranchi, Sarma expressed concern over the conditions faced by the police force, including delayed salaries, lack of mediclaim, and denied voting rights. Two IRB battalion personnel were among those injured in the clash, which erupted when approximately 2,000 Sahayak Police, demanding regularization of their services, attempted to breach barricades near the Chief Minister’s residence.
Sarma criticized the state government for failing to address the grievances of the police force and called for dialogue to prevent further unrest. He urged the Jharkhand government to resolve these issues through discussion and ensure fair treatment for police personnel. Sarma expressed confidence in the BJP’s success in the upcoming Jharkhand elections, asserting that the state’s current condition under the JMM government requires substantial improvement.
