Landslide Hits North Sikkim’s Munsithang; No Casualties Reported
Munsithang, July 22 – A landslide struck Munsithang, on the route to Lachen in North Sikkim, on July 21. Fortunately, there have been no reports of human casualties.
North Sikkim continues to face connectivity issues following a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) last year, exacerbated by ongoing heavy rainfall that hampers road restoration efforts.
In related news, the District Magistrate of Kalimpong provided an update on the restoration of National Highway 10 (NH 10). According to the Public Works Department (PWD), significant progress has been made, with completion expected within a week.
The district administration emphasized that the restoration project is a high priority, though specific details about the work remain undisclosed. Authorities have promised an official update once the restoration is finalized.
