Assam: Ro-Pax Vessel MV Bob Khathing Collides with Cargo Ferries in Dhubri
Guwahati, July 22 – On the morning of July 22, the Ro-Pax vessel MV Bob Khathing collided with several cargo-laden ferries at Jogomaya Ghat in Dhubri, Assam, resulting in two severe injuries and the capsizing of one ferry.
The incident took place around 9:30 AM as the vessel, operated by the Indian Water Transport Authority, was traveling from Fakirganj to Dhubri Jogomaya Ghat. According to Mohibul Sheikh, a sailor on board the MV Bob Khathing, a mechanical malfunction caused the hydraulic brake to lock unexpectedly. Despite Sheikh’s quick action to neutralize the gearbox, the vessel was pushed backwards by the strong river current, leading to a collision with six to seven cargo boats and a passenger ferry.
The collision caused significant damage to the lower sections of the cargo boats. The two injured individuals were immediately transported to Dhubri Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Local authorities are currently investigating the incident to determine the full extent of the damage and to identify any potential safety violations.
