IIM-Guwahati to Begin Courses Next Academic Year: Assam CM Announced
Guwahati, 25th July: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Guwahati is set to commence courses from the next academic year, according to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The announcement came after a meeting with Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday.
“It gives me great pleasure to share that the Minister has consented to our request of IIM-Guwahati commencing courses from the next academic year. We also discussed in detail the Government of India’s support for Assam under PM-USHA, a central scheme to finance state institutions,” Sarma said in a post on the microblogging site X.
Sarma also mentioned that the Minister positively considered measures to strengthen the capacity of Assam’s Teacher Training Institute. Additionally, they discussed ways to augment technical education in the state.
The Education Minister said he had fruitful discussions with the Assam Chief Minister on transforming the research, innovation, higher and school education landscape in Assam. They also focused on connecting Assam’s talented youth with more opportunities for education, skilling, and employment.
“NEP (National Education Policy) remains a guiding principle in making our teaching and learning landscape more vibrant. The Education Ministry will leave no stone unturned in strengthening the capacities of academic institutions and teachers, enabling equitable access to 21st-century quality education, and fulfilling the educational priorities of Assam,” Pradhan posted on X.
He further emphasized that with education as the cornerstone and the #Purvodaya initiative as a compass, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government is committed to realizing aspirations, empowering people, and transforming Assam into a growth engine for a developed India.
The launch of IIM-Guwahati’s courses marks a significant step in enhancing higher education infrastructure and opportunities in Assam, aligning with the broader goals of the National Education Policy and the central government’s developmental agenda for the region.
