Tripura Police Arrest Three for Spreading False Rumors in Agartala
Northeast Desk, 27th July: Tripura Police have detained three individuals for circulating false messages and rumors in Agartala. The arrests followed the spread of a misleading post instructing tribal residents to leave the city by July 26, 2024.
According to Tripura Police, the trio was apprehended following a case registered at the West Agartala Police Station. The false message, propagated on social media, was designed to incite panic among the tribal community in the city.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the police condemned the act and stressed that stringent legal action would be taken against the offenders, particularly targeting administrators of WhatsApp groups involved in disseminating such information.
“Three persons have been arrested for spreading a false message/rumor instructing tribal people in Agartala to leave before 26/07/2024,” the police announcement read. “Strict legal action will be taken against those involved, especially group admins of WhatsApp groups promoting such divisive content.”
The police urged the public to avoid spreading unfounded rumors, assuring that the situation in Agartala remains calm and peaceful. This follows previous warnings from Tripura Police about the serious consequences of spreading false information.
