Assam CM Announces Ration Card Access for Registered Migrant Workers on e-Shram Portal
Guwahati, 29th July: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that migrant workers registered on the e-Shram portal from 2021 to 2023 can now apply for new ration cards or add members to their existing ones. The application deadline is August 3, 2024.
This move follows a Supreme Court directive mandating states and Union Territories to provide ration cards to 8 crore migrant workers registered on the e-Shram portal. The portal currently has 286 million registrants, with 206.3 million already on ration card data.
Earlier this month, during the inaugural day of Anna Sewa Din, Assam distributed over 13,000 metric tons of food grains to approximately 6.5 lakh ration card holders across various districts.
Notable district performances included:
- West Karbi Anglong: Distributed 4.29% of its allocation to 2,066 ration card holders.
