Naga Hospital Authority Kohima Performs First PCNL Surgery
Northeast Desk, 29th July: The Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) on Thursday affiliated with the Nagaland Institute of Medical Science & Research (NIMSR), successfully conducted its first Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL) surgery.
The complex procedure, led by Dr. Bernard Amer, a renowned urologist, involved creating a small tract through the skin into the kidney. This allowed a camera to be inserted to break and remove large kidney stones under direct vision. Dr. Amer described the surgery as highly intricate, requiring precise execution.
The patient, a 33-year-old woman, was discharged on Saturday in good health. Remarkably, the entire procedure was carried out cashless under the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS), making it both accessible and affordable for the patient.
Dr. Amer attributed the success of the operation to the recently acquired advanced equipment at NHAK, which was crucial for the procedure. He expressed appreciation for Medical Superintendent Dr. Sendimeren Aonok and the anaesthesia team led by Dr. Angto Phom for their essential support.
Dr. Amer also encouraged the public to make use of the hospital’s urology services, highlighting the availability of modern medical facilities and expert care at NHAK.
