ASDMA signs MoU to build an Intelligent Data Solution for Disaster Risk Reduction

Guwahati, 31st July: In a major boost to disaster management efforts in Assam, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) and CivicDataLab (CDL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at leveraging data-driven solutions to tackle the growing challenges posed by extreme weather events. The agreement was formalized today at the Chief Secretary’s conference hall in Janata Bhawan, Dispur.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Dr. Ravi Kota, IAS, Chief Secretary of Assam, who underscored the potential for Assam to set a benchmark for other states through the adoption of innovative disaster management strategies. Dr. Kota stressed the crucial role of data-driven decision-making in enhancing climate resilience and urged for increased inter-agency collaboration to develop effective disaster mitigation strategies.

Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, IAS, Principal Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of ASDMA, highlighted that this partnership represents a key advancement in integrating cutting-edge data technologies for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in the state.

The ceremony also included virtual contributions from Shri Dunichand Rana, IAS, Special Secretary, Government of Himachal Pradesh. Rana commended CDL’s initiative and shared plans for similar data-driven approaches in Himachal Pradesh over the next 18 months.

Gaurav Godhwani, Co-founder and Executive Director of CDL, expressed appreciation for the Assam government’s support and presented CDL’s Intelligent Data Solution for Disaster Risk Reduction. He outlined the organization’s ongoing projects in Assam and its broader impact across India.

The MoU was officially signed by Gyanendra Dev Tripathi on behalf of ASDMA and Gaurav Godhwani on behalf of CDL. Senior officials from both organizations, including Shri Shyamal Kshetra Gogoi, Joint Secretary of the Revenue & Disaster Management Department, and Shri Alakananda Medhi, State Project Coordinator, ASDMA, witnessed the event.

This collaboration is expected to significantly bolster Assam’s disaster response capabilities, enhance resource allocation for disaster risk management, and serve as a model for other states to emulate.
