Meghalaya High Court Issues Notices Over NEET UG Exam Irregularities
Northeast Desk, 6th August: The Meghalaya High Court has issued notices to relevant authorities concerning alleged irregularities in the NEET UG exams conducted at the Jowai and Nongpoh examination centers. This follows a writ petition filed by Eleazer Vincent Lyngdoh and others against the National Testing Agency (NTA) and additional respondents.
During a hearing on August 5, Y Pallavi, representing the petitioners, emphasized the urgency of the matter, highlighting the controversies surrounding the NEET UG exams at the two centers. The court acknowledged the urgency and granted Dr. N. Mozika DSGI, representing the respondents, one week to file an affidavit addressing the issues raised.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for August 12, 2024, and directed that the affidavit be submitted by then.
Previously, the Supreme Court had addressed a similar petition from students who experienced a loss of 45 minutes during the NEET UG exam at a Meghalaya center. These students are seeking inclusion in the group of 1,563 candidates who were granted grace marks and offered a chance to reappear for the exam on June 23. The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Centre and the NTA regarding this issue.
