
Security Forces Launch Extensive Operations in Manipur, Seize Large Cache of Arms and Ammunition
Northeast Desk, 11th August: In a strategic move to enhance security across the volatile hill and valley districts of Manipur, security forces recently carried out extensive search operations and area domination exercises. These operations focused on the vulnerable and fringe areas within these districts, resulting in the recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition.
In Thoubal District, security personnel uncovered a modified AK rifle, a bore barrel, an anti-riot gun, and two country-made 9mm pistols in the foothills of Wathou Ridge. The forces also seized ten HE-36 hand grenades, a 2-inch mortar shell, an 80 MK-I shell, four rubber bullets, and various tear smoke shells. Additional recoveries included 54 rounds of live ammunition, three detonators, two Baofeng radio sets, and assorted MK cartridges.
Similar operations in Monglham and Kamu within Imphal East District led to the discovery of a Pumpi, three mortar bombs, a Pumpi wooden base, and thirteen fired cases. In Bishnupur District, the searches yielded two 12-bore single-barrel shotguns, a modified .303 rifle, eight HE-36 grenades, two SLR magazines, and various types of grenades, including stun and Chinese hand grenades. The forces also recovered tube launchers, arming rings, live and empty HD cartridges, and a Chinese detonator.
In addition to these operations, security forces facilitated the safe passage of essential goods along the critical National Highways NH-37 and NH-2. A total of 201 vehicles carrying essential supplies were securely escorted, with heightened security measures implemented across vulnerable areas. Security convoys were deployed to ensure the uninterrupted and safe movement of these vehicles.
To further fortify security across Manipur, 105 Naka checkpoints were established in both hill and valley districts. These checkpoints led to the detention of 208 individuals for various violations, highlighting the intensified efforts to maintain law and order in the state.
