Assam Police Thwarts Attempted Entry of Four Bangladeshi Nationals at India-Bangladesh Border

Guwahati, 12th August: In a vigilant operation, the Assam Police identified and repelled four Bangladeshi citizens who attempted to enter Indian territory through the India-Bangladesh border at Karimganj on August 12. The incident took place around 1:30 am, when the four individuals—Motiur Seikh, Mushiar Mullah, Tania Mullah, and Rita Mullah—were intercepted at the zero point of the border.

The Assam Police’s swift intervention prevented the unauthorized entry of the group, ensuring the security and integrity of the border. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter) to share details of the operation, highlighting the importance of maintaining vigilance along the sensitive border areas.

This incident comes on the heels of another border breach on August 10, when a group of 10 to 15 Bangladeshi nationals reportedly crossed beyond Gate No. 50 and attempted to forcibly enter the Indian villages of Bhogdanga and Faushkarkuti in Dhubri district. These villages, which lie beyond the border fence, are strategically significant, occupying 684 bighas in India’s “chicken neck” region and are surrounded by Bangladesh on three sides.

The Assam Police and border security forces have been on high alert following these incidents, working to prevent further unauthorized entries and ensuring the safety of residents in these border areas. The proximity of these villages to Bangladesh, combined with their geographical vulnerability, underscores the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in maintaining border integrity.
