Nagaland: Dimapur Reports No Recent Spike in Dengue Cases, Says CMO
Northeast Desk, 12th August: Dimapur’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. Limatula Aier, has confirmed that the district has not experienced a recent surge in dengue cases. This announcement contrasts sharply with last year’s figures when Dimapur accounted for 1,398 of the state’s 2,899 dengue cases, primarily involving serotypes 1 and 2.
According to data from the past seven months, compiled from five private hospitals in Dimapur, there has been a substantial reduction in dengue cases. Only 88 cases were recorded from January to July this year, marking a significant decrease compared to the previous year.
Dr. Aier attributed this positive trend to increased public awareness and effective preventive measures. She emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant, despite the current low case numbers, as mosquito-borne diseases continue to pose a risk.
Preventive strategies such as community education, source reduction, and early intervention have played a critical role in reducing case numbers. However, Dr. Aier warned against complacency, noting that neglecting preventive measures could still lead to an outbreak.
Key preventive measures include proper waste disposal, eliminating mosquito breeding sites, regular cleaning of water storage containers, and the use of mosquito repellents. Dr. Aier also mentioned that while entomological studies are underway to evaluate the need for fogging, this method is used judiciously due to potential health risks.
Addressing concerns from Dr. Neisakho Kere, NVBDCP’s state programme officer, about a potential dengue outbreak, Dr. Aier stressed the need for public cooperation in adhering to preventive guidelines to effectively manage and mitigate the risk of dengue.
