Former Meghalaya Chief Minister Salseng C Marak Passes Away at 82

Northeast Desk, August 16, 2024 Former Meghalaya Chief Minister Salseng C Marak has passed away at the age of 82 due to old age-related ailments. He died at Tura Civil Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment.

Marak, who was born in 1941, made history as the first Chief Minister of Meghalaya to complete a five-year term, serving from 1988 to 1993. His tenure in 1998, however, was notably brief, lasting only 12 days due to the collapse of the Congress-led coalition.

A graduate of Kolkata’s Scottish Church College, Marak’s death signifies the end of a significant era in Meghalaya’s political history. He is remembered for his contributions to the state’s governance and his dedication to principles of integrity and leadership.
