NEC Withdraws Draft Vision 2047 Document Following Erroneous Reference to Manipur
Northeast, August 18, 2024 — The North Eastern Council (NEC) has retracted its Draft Vision 2047 document after it mistakenly referred to Manipur as the “Chin State of Manipur.” The error was found in Chapter 3 of the draft, which inaccurately discussed the migration of ethnic tribes in the Northeast, erroneously describing the “Kukis (Chin)” as originating from this non-existent Chin State.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh promptly addressed the issue upon discovering the mistake. He communicated directly with Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and instructed Chief Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi to ensure the error was corrected. The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) swiftly responded by retracting the draft for revisions.
Planning Advisor Som Kamei confirmed the document’s withdrawal in a statement. The draft, which had been circulated on August 9 and 17, 2024, is now under review to correct these inaccuracies before being reissued. This move underscores the importance of accurate representation in government documents, particularly concerning sensitive regional matters.
