Assam CM Lauds PM Modi’s Economic Policies Amid Record Low Inflation
Guwahati, August 19, 2024: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governance for maintaining a high growth and low inflation trajectory in India over the past decade. Speaking on August 19, Sarma highlighted that this achievement is a result of Modi’s pragmatic policies, which have consistently prioritized the poor and middle class.
The Chief Minister pointed out the sharp decline in India’s year-on-year inflation rate, as indicated by the All India Consumer Price Index (CPI) for July 2024, which stands at 3.54% (provisional). This marks the lowest inflation rate in the last 59 months. The inflation rate for rural areas is reported at 4.10%, while urban areas saw a rate of 2.98%.
Moreover, food inflation for July 2024 is the lowest since June 2023, with the Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) reflecting a year-on-year inflation rate of 5.42% (provisional). Rural and urban food inflation rates were recorded at 5.89% and 4.63%, respectively.
Sarma emphasized that there has been a notable decline in inflation across all groups, particularly in the subgroups of vegetables, fruits, and spices. This reduction in inflation is a testament to the government’s effective management of the economy, ensuring that the cost of living remains controlled and affordable for citizens.
The Chief Minister’s remarks underscore the significance of maintaining economic stability, which has been a hallmark of India’s growth story under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.
