Arunachal Paralympic Association Calls for Increased Support Following National Success

Northeast Desk, 19th August: The Paralympic Association of Arunachal (PAA) is urging the state government to boost support for para-athletes after notable successes at the All India Karate Championship 2024. Arunachal Pradesh’s para-karate athletes, Gollo John and Taru Richo, won gold and silver medals respectively at the national event in Panchkula, Haryana.

Techi Sonu, Secretary General of the PAA, emphasized the need for improved facilities and financial backing. “We appeal to the State Government to enhance support and provide facilities for Divyangjans sportspersons, including special fund provisions, jobs, and cash incentives,” Sonu stated.

Sonu believes that increased support could lead to greater international success. He highlighted that with better facilities, Arunachal’s athletes could achieve medals at the Paralympic Games. The PAA also announced plans to prepare Arunachal athletes for the 2028 and 2032 Summer Paralympics, reflecting their long-term commitment to para-sports.
