Assam: Bomb Threat at Guwahati’s City Centre Mall Turns Out To Be a Hoax
Guwahati, August 19 – A bomb threat sent via email forced the temporary shutdown of the City Centre mall in Guwahati today, August 19. The mall was evacuated, and a notice cited a “technical issue” as the reason for the two-hour closure. A senior police official confirmed the threat, and a team of bomb detectors and sniffer dogs were deployed to investigate.
However, after a thorough search, no explosive device was found, and the threat was deemed a hoax. The mall has since resumed normal operations.
This incident comes after a similar scare on Independence Day, August 15, when Assam Police received information about suspected bombs planted in various locations. Searches were conducted across the state, including in Guwahati, but no bombs were found.
The banned insurgent group ULFA (I) had claimed responsibility for planting bombs in various parts of Assam, but it appears to be a case of false alarm. The police are investigating the source of the hoax email and will take appropriate action.
The public is advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
