Manipur Police Arrests KCP Cadres and Armed Gang Members in Major Crackdown on Extortion and Illegal Activities
Northeast Desk, 21st August: In a significant operation on August 20, Manipur Police apprehended two active cadres of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) MC (Progressive) from Imphal East for their involvement in extortion activities. The suspects, identified as Nongmaithem Rohit Singh (23) and Ronaldo Laishram (21), were taken into custody and found in possession of two mobile phones, which are believed to have been used in their illicit activities.
In a separate operation on the same day, police in Lilong Chajing, Imphal West District, arrested three members of an armed gang. The suspects, Athokpam Digson Singh (24), Maibam Suresh Singh (29), and Chanambam Naotomba Singh (21), were found with a cache of weapons and other items, including a 5.56mm INSAS Light Machine Gun (LMG) with an empty magazine, a 5.56mm INSAS Rifle with an empty magazine, a .32 caliber pistol with one live round and a magazine, three mobile handsets, a four-wheeler vehicle, and Rs. 11,000 in cash.
The arrests mark a significant victory in the state’s ongoing efforts to curb extortion and armed violence. Manipur Police continue to investigate the incidents, focusing on dismantling the networks of illegal activities in the region.
