Fourteen Dead as Passenger Bus Plunges into Nepal’s Marsyangdi River
International Desk, 23rd August: A tragic accident involving a passenger bus from Uttar Pradesh has resulted in the recovery of fourteen bodies from the Marsyangdi River in Nepal’s Tanahun district. The bus, registered as UP FT 7623, was transporting approximately 40 passengers when it veered off the road and plunged into the river.
According to Kumar Neupane, spokesperson for Nepal’s Armed Police Force, rescue teams have successfully retrieved fourteen bodies from the crash site. The bus, which was traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu, now rests on the riverbank, as confirmed by Tanahun District Police Officer DSP Deepkumar Raya.
The Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner has initiated efforts to verify if any passengers from Uttar Pradesh were on board. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Maharajganj has been sent to Nepal to assist in the investigation, and the Additional District Magistrate of Maharajganj will oversee further coordination efforts.
Rescue operations are ongoing, and authorities are expected to provide more details as the situation unfolds.
