Assam: Man arrested by Tinsukia police for alleged molestation attempt on minor

Guwahati, August 24 — A teenage girl in Tinsukia’s Sripuria neighbourhood narrowly avoided being molested. The event started when a man who went by the name of Jon Haloi approached the girl pretending to give her some chocolates. But he wasn’t acting with pure motives; instead, he was trying to exploit the little child.

When the local police learnt of the incident, they moved quickly to free the teenager from the perpetrator’s grasp. Sensing the cops were there, Haloi was able to escape the area. But a later operation by the police resulted in his and his accomplice’s apprehension from various sites in Tinsukia.

At the Tinsukia Sadar police station, a case has been filed against Jon Halai under Section 75(2)Bns R/W Section 8 of the POCSO Act.

While the matter is being investigated, the accused is being held by the police.

The persistent threat of sexual abuse against minors is brought home by this occurrence.

After a gruelling two-hour rescue attempt earlier in the day, Tafazul Islam, the primary culprit in the Dhing gang rape case, was pronounced dead. During an investigation, Islam made an effort to evade police custody this morning at 4 a.m. by jumping into a nearby pond.

When the escape attempt happened, the police had taken him to the crime scene for additional investigation.

Search efforts were immediately initiated by the police, who feared he may have drowned. The bodies of Islam and his crew were pulled out of the water after two hours. After a thorough investigation revealed that Islam was the third male involved in the horrific gang rape, he was taken into custody on August 23.
