Nagaland: Massive Landslide Blocks NEC Road Between Jotsoma and Khonoma

Northeast, August 24 A massive landslide early Friday morning has completely blocked the NEC road between Jotsoma and Khonoma near the Dzüna bridge, rendering the vital route impassable. The landslide, which likely occurred late Thursday night or early Friday, buried the entire stretch of the road under debris, cutting off direct access between the two villages.

The Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) of Sechü-Zubza confirmed the blockage, noting that the only alternative route to Khonoma currently runs through Mezoma village. This alternate route is now also being used as a connection to Dimapur, further exacerbating traffic congestion in the region.

The Border Roads Organisation (GREF), which is responsible for the road’s maintenance, has initiated restoration efforts. However, local resident Kuolachalie Seyie expressed concerns that it may take up to three days to clear the road due to ongoing soil movement that continues to hinder the restoration work.

The NEC road, funded by the North Eastern Council, serves as a crucial link to Benreu in Peren district, and its closure is expected to cause significant disruption to local transport and connectivity.
