Two Arrested for Molesting Minors in Assam’s Lakhimpur; Dhing Gang Rape Accused Dies
Guwahati, August 24 — A police officer said on Saturday that two people had been taken into custody for allegedly abusing minors in two different incidences that occurred in the Lakhimpur district of Assam.
On Friday evening, the Panigaon police station covered the locations where both arrests were made. A maulana is accused of sexually harassing a nine-year-old girl who attended his teachings.
The accused was fleeing the scene of the event, which occurred a few days ago. The police stated he was taken into custody on Friday night.
In the second case, which happened on Thursday, the accused is said to have attempted to sexually abuse a girl within his store.
The proprietor of the store was also taken into custody on Friday evening, and the POCSO Act’s applicable provisions have been filed against the two defendants in the two cases.
The police officer continued, “We are looking into the cases.”
After a gruelling two-hour rescue attempt earlier in the day, Tafazul Islam, the primary culprit in the Dhing gang rape case, was pronounced dead. During an investigation, Islam made an effort to evade police custody this morning at 4 a.m. by jumping into a nearby pond.
When the escape attempt happened, the police had taken him to the crime scene for additional investigation.
Search efforts were immediately initiated by the police, who feared he may have drowned. The bodies of Islam and his crew were pulled out of the water after two hours. After a thorough investigation revealed that Islam was the third male involved in the horrific gang rape, he was taken into custody on August 23.
