Meghalaya Man Arrested for Repeated Sexual Assault of Minor Daughters; Community Outrage Leads to Swift Action
Northeast Desk, 25th August: A 44-year-old man has been arrested in Meghalaya’s South Garo Hills district for the alleged repeated sexual assault of his two minor daughters. The man was taken into custody in the early hours of Saturday following a community-driven intervention that brought the harrowing abuse to light.
Authorities have charged the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after disturbing revelations surfaced about his prolonged abuse of his 17-year-old and 14-year-old daughters. The assaults reportedly continued for an extended period, with local villagers finally stepping in after growing increasingly concerned about the situation.
According to sources, the mother of the two girls was aware of the ongoing abuse but failed to report it to the authorities, leaving her daughters to suffer in silence. It was only after the distressed villagers confronted the village president and secretary, lodging a formal protest, that the abuse was halted, and the perpetrator was arrested.
The man has since been remanded to judicial custody, and the case is under investigation. The swift response from the local community underscores the critical role of collective action in addressing and preventing such heinous crimes.
As the investigation continues, the incident has sparked outrage and raised questions about the systemic failures that allowed the abuse to persist unchecked for so long.
