Nagaland Government Issues Ultimatum to NHIDCL Over Highway Restoration

Northeast Desk, 27th August: In a decisive move, the Nagaland State Government has set a 72-hour deadline for the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to clear debris and restore traffic on a vital National Highway. The announcement follows a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary on August 26, 2024.

The affected highway is a critical link between the state capital, Kohima, and several other districts. Despite receiving substantial support from state authorities and local communities, NHIDCL and its contractors have repeatedly failed to meet restoration expectations.

The state government has warned that if NHIDCL does not comply with the deadline, it will deploy its own machinery and personnel to clear the highway. Any costs incurred will be billed to NHIDCL for reimbursement. This measure underscores the government’s commitment to resolving the transportation crisis and ensuring the highway’s swift reopening.
