Manipur Security Forces Arrest Multiple Militants, Seize Weapons in Coordinated Operations
Northeast Desk, August 28, 2024 – In a series of coordinated operations, Manipur security forces, in collaboration with the state police, have made significant breakthroughs against proscribed militant outfits, leading to multiple arrests and the seizure of a substantial cache of weapons and other items.
On August 26, security forces successfully apprehended two militants affiliated with the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) near the Wangjing Heirok crossing in Thoubal District. The arrested individuals were identified as Narengbam Gobin Singh, 37, and Moirangmayum Romantic, also known as Prem, 27. The duo was found in possession of a 9mm pistol with a magazine, an SMG carbine with a magazine, five live rounds of ammunition, a mobile phone with a SIM card, and a four-wheeled vehicle registered to a resident of Sangaiyumpham, Thoubal District.
In a separate operation, a team from the Manipur Police arrested Koijam Uperjit Singh, 29, a cadre of the proscribed outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) – Taibangnganba, from Elangkhanpokpi in Kakching District during the night of August 26-27. Initial investigations revealed Uperjit Singh’s involvement in militant activities, and further inquiries are ongoing to uncover the extent of his operations.
Meanwhile, in Bishnupur District, police carried out a massive search operation following the arrest of four cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party – People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) on August 26. The operation led to the discovery of a shelter house used by KCP-PWG in the Kamong area. Security forces recovered six four-wheeled vehicles along with combat gear, including boots, belts, sleeping bags, blankets, bulletproof vests, helmets, and cooking utensils. Efforts to track down remaining militants in the region are ongoing.
These coordinated actions mark a significant step in the ongoing efforts to combat insurgent activities in Manipur, as authorities continue to tighten security and crack down on militant groups operating in the state.
