Landslide Partially Damages Under-Construction Kawnpui Railway Station in Mizoram
Northeast Desk, 29th August: A landslide on August 28 triggered by heavy rainfall partially damaged the under-construction Kawnpui Railway Station in Mizoram’s Kolasib district. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties or injuries.
Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway, confirmed the damage, stating, “Under-construction Kawnpui Railway Station in Mizoram was partially damaged due to landslide. There is no report of any casualty in the incident.”
The affected railway track is a key link connecting Mizoram with other northeastern states. With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting continued light to moderate rainfall throughout the week, there are concerns about potential further landslides.
Previously, on August 26, Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) encountered disruptions due to heavy rains and soil erosion along the interstate railway track between Assam and Mizoram. The route near Killarbak, approximately 60 km from Hailakandi town, was temporarily closed due to these issues, halting railway services between the states.
