Manipur: Rastrahit Sarvopari Sangathan Raises Concerns Over Planned Rally by Kuki Inpi and Kuki Students Organizations
Northeast Desk, 30th August: The Rastrahit Sarvopari Sangathan has formally addressed a letter to the Commissioner of Delhi Police expressing grave concerns about a planned rally by the Kuki Inpi and Kuki Students Organizations. Scheduled for August 31, 2024, from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, the rally is titled ‘Nation Wide Rally for Kuki-Zo’s Union Territory with LA Against Biren-led BJP Government’s Institutional Genocide on the Kuki-Zo Community.’
In its communication, the Rastrahit Sarvopari Sangathan highlighted potential risks of violence, drawing parallels to previous unrest following the Solidarity March Rally organized by the All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) in Churachandpur District on May 3, 2023. The organization noted that while the situation in Manipur has been relatively stable for the past five to six months due to government interventions, there have been disruptions attempted by Myanmar-based Kuki militants.
The letter expressed apprehension that the use of terms like ‘genocide’ in the rally could incite further violence. “At this point, organizing a nationwide rally by the Kuki Inpi & Kuki Students Organization with inflammatory language such as ‘Genocide’ could potentially provoke a second round of violence in the State of Manipur,” the letter stated. It also referenced previous incidents where the term ‘genocide’ was used in a controversial manner by the Kuki Inpi.
The Rastrahit Sarvopari Sangathan emphasized its commitment to peace and requested the authorities to implement measures to prevent any disturbances during the rally. Additionally, the letter included claims of alleged financial support from anti-national elements to Kuki organizations, further underscoring their concerns about the rally’s potential impact on communal harmony.
