Assam: 21-Year-Old Man Rescued from Captors in Karimganj, Prime Suspect Arrested

Guwahati, August 31, 2024 — In a swift operation on Wednesday night, Badarpur police rescued 21-year-old Abdul Waris, a resident of Kakching in Manipur, from his captors in Karimganj district. Waris was found in the home of Rashid Ahmed, one of the prime suspects, in Rangarpur village.

Abdul Waris had been kidnapped in Silchar and brought to Badarpur, where his abductors demanded a ransom. The rescue operation was launched after crucial information was obtained from a UPI ransom payment made by Waris’ family. This payment led authorities to locate and arrest 32-year-old Rashid Ahmed, who is now in police custody.

While the motive for the kidnapping is still under investigation, initial reports suggest that a ransom of six lakh rupees was demanded. One additional person has been detained from the residence for further questioning as the investigation continues.
