Arunachal: Eighty Farmers in Lower Siang District Benefit from Agri-Horticultural Training Session

Northeast Desk, August 31, 2024 — Eighty local farmers from Lower Siang district engaged in an extensive training session on ‘Farm Innovations in Agri-Horticultural Crops’ hosted by the College of Horticulture & Forestry (CHF) of Pasighat on Friday.

The event, held at Old Deka village, was inaugurated by Tojir Kadu, MLA of the 36th Nari-Koyu constituency. Kadu emphasized the pivotal role of agriculture and horticulture in the region’s economy and quality of life. He also highlighted the significance of millets, praising their benefits for both farmers and consumers.

Key speakers included Dr. Premaradhya N., Assistant Professor and Principal Investigator of the M4Agri project; Dr. S.M. Hussain, Head of KVK East Siang; Dr. Rohit Shukla; and Dr. S.M. Lokhande. They offered insights on the nutritional benefits of millets, scientific practices for cultivating arecanut and orange crops, soil health management, and the advantages of value addition and diverse consumption methods.

The training session was part of the M4Agri-Mobile Based Advisory Services initiative in Arunachal Pradesh, funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The program, managed by Central Agricultural University, Imphal, in partnership with Digital India Corporation, New Delhi, was supported by the District Kisan Morcha, Lower Siang.

District Kisan Morcha President Kirdo Taipodia, along with other office bearers, Gaon Borahs, and progressive farmers, also participated, sharing their views on the advancements discussed during the session. This initiative aims to enhance agricultural practices and promote sustainable farming techniques in the region.
