Meghalaya: Second Suspect Arrested in Malki Rape Case by Laitumkhrah Police
Northeast Desk, 2nd September: The Laitumkhrah police have successfully apprehended the second suspect allegedly involved in the recent rape case in Malki, Shillong. The accused, Kitbok Reuben Mawthoh, who had been evading arrest since Saturday, was finally caught in Smit during the early hours of September 2.
The arrest was made at approximately 2:00 am, bringing a significant breakthrough in the case. Mawthoh was one of the two suspects named in the First Information Report (FIR) filed at the Laitumkhrah police station following the assault.
Earlier, the police had arrested 19-year-old Andy Malngiang in connection with the crime. Malngiang has since been remanded to 14-day judicial custody and is facing charges under Sections 351(3) and 70(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) of 2023.
The incident came to light when the victim lodged a complaint on the night of the assault, prompting swift action from the Laitumkhrah Police, leading to the prompt arrests of the suspects involved.
