Nagaland: Dimapur Railway Station Set for Major Modernization with ₹283 Crore Project
Northeast Desk, 3rd September: A significant modernization project for Dimapur Railway Station has been officially set in motion following a coordination meeting held on September 2. Attended by key officials from the Nagaland State Transport Department, Dimapur District Administration, and Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR), the meeting outlined ambitious plans to upgrade the station to international standards.
The ₹283 crore project aims to transform Dimapur Railway Station into a modern transportation hub, enhancing passenger amenities and improving traffic flow within the station premises. State Transport Secretary Robert Longchari emphasized the importance of addressing chronic encroachment issues surrounding the station, noting that the state government is committed to overcoming these challenges. Longchari urged NFR to commence development work with the full backing of the state.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang announced plans for a comprehensive survey to clear the 91 identified encroachers from the station’s vicinity. This step is considered crucial for clearing the path for the station’s redevelopment.
The renovation plans include high-class facilities and a redesigned layout aimed at significantly enhancing the overall passenger experience. The tendering process for the project is nearing completion, with construction expected to begin by late October or early November.
In addition to the railway station’s upgrade, officials also conducted a review of ongoing and future projects at Dimapur Airport, ensuring that regional development efforts are aligned.
This modernization effort marks a significant step towards improving infrastructure in Dimapur, promising a more efficient and passenger-friendly railway station that aligns with global standards.
