Meghalaya: AICTE Approval Process Underway for Shillong Government College of Engineering
Northeast Desk, 3rd September: The Shillong Government College of Engineering, located in Mawlai Kynton Massar, is moving closer to introducing new courses as it undergoes the approval process by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). This marks a significant step forward for the institution, which aims to expand its academic offerings.
According to official sources, the academic council of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has already granted provisional affiliation to the college for offering B.Tech courses. This provisional affiliation is a key milestone, enabling the college to begin the process of establishing its engineering programs.
In an effort to make the engineering college fully functional, the state government has approved a proposal to allow the Additional Director & Principal of Shillong Polytechnic, Mawlai, along with 13 qualified faculty members, to take on additional responsibilities at the engineering college. These faculty members will hold dual roles as Heads of the Institute and faculty members, ensuring that the college has the necessary academic leadership and instructional support as it ramps up its operations.
The infrastructure at the Shillong Government College of Engineering has been rapidly developed, with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma having inaugurated the academic block, as well as boys’ and girls’ hostels, on January 1, 2023. The construction of internal roads, landscaping, and essential services such as electricity and water supply have also been completed, further enhancing the campus environment.
To support the college’s operations, the state government has created 55 teaching and non-teaching positions, ensuring that the institution is well-equipped to handle the demands of its growing academic programs.
With the AICTE approval process underway, the Shillong Government College of Engineering is on the cusp of becoming a fully operational hub for technical education in Meghalaya, contributing to the state’s educational development and offering new opportunities for aspiring engineers.
