Assam Police Tighten Vigil Along Indo-Bangladesh Border, Prevent Multiple Infiltration Attempts
Guwahati, September 4, 2024 — In a series of operations reflecting Assam’s intensified border security measures, Assam Police successfully apprehended and deported multiple Bangladeshi nationals attempting to cross into the state illegally. The heightened vigilance comes amid a broader crackdown on infiltration along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
In the early hours of the day, Assam Police apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals identified as Afroja Jahirul Sardar, Tumpa Haque, Ridoy Sk, Akhi Sk, and Lakhipur Akhtar. The individuals were intercepted during a routine patrol and were immediately pushed back across the border, preventing their illegal entry into the country.
Later, in a late-night operation, Karimganj police intercepted three more Bangladeshi nationals attempting to enter Assam illegally. The individuals, identified as Md Zubair Sheikh, Juel Sheikh, and Ruma Khatun, were apprehended and deported back to Bangladesh on August 28. The swift action highlights Assam’s commitment to securing its borders against unauthorized entry.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to commend the successful operation, underscoring the state’s unwavering focus on border security. “In line with our policy to safeguard our borders against any infiltration, Karimganj police detected the following Bangladeshi nationals and subsequently pushed them back,” Sarma stated, reaffirming the state’s dedication to protecting its borders.
This latest incident is part of a broader trend of heightened vigilance along the Assam-Bangladesh border. Earlier this week, authorities arrested two additional Bangladeshi nationals at Badarpur railway station. The suspects, identified as 36-year-old Masum Khan from Modelganj and 15-year-old Sonia Akhtar from Dhaka, allegedly entered India via the Madhoppur-Agartala route and were en route to Bangalore. Assam Police, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), ensured their prompt deportation.
The series of successful operations underscores Assam’s proactive stance in preventing illegal infiltration and maintaining the integrity of its borders, ensuring that those attempting to cross into the state without proper authorization are swiftly dealt with and returned to their country of origin.
