Weapons Cache Recovered in Major Joint Operations in Manipur’s Violence-Hit Districts

Northeast Desk, 5th September: A significant cache of weapons and ammunition was seized in coordinated operations led by the army, paramilitary forces, and local police in Manipur’s Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts, both of which have been at the heart of ongoing communal violence.

The joint operations, which took place on Wednesday, involved meticulous planning and the use of advanced equipment such as explosive detection dogs and metal detectors. According to officials, the two districts have been the epicenters of recent unrest in the state.

Acting on intelligence inputs, the first raid was conducted in Sielmat village in Churachandpur district. The operation led to the recovery of two muzzleloading guns, seven 12-bore cartridges, and a Kenwood communication set.

A follow-up operation in Kangchup Ponlen village in Kangpokpi district yielded a larger haul, including an SLR rifle with a magazine, a .303 rifle (without bolt), a single-barrel rifle, two improvised mortars, one HE-36 hand grenade, three live rounds of ammunition, three Baofeng radio sets, 29 detonators, and 14 spent shell casings.

While no arrests have been made, the seized items have been handed over to local police for further investigation. Authorities remain on high alert as efforts to curb the insurgency and restore peace in the troubled regions continue.
