Sikkim CM Congratulates Yankila Lama for National Teacher Award 2024
Northeast Desk, 6th September: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang extended heartfelt congratulations to Yankila Lama, an Arts Graduate Teacher from Modern Senior Secondary School, Gangtok, for receiving the prestigious National Award for Teachers 2024. The recognition underscores her outstanding contributions to education and her role in shaping young minds.
CM Tamang praised Lama for her dedication and passion, stating, “May you continue to inspire and shape young minds through your dedication and passion for teaching.” He lauded her efforts in nation-building and wished her continued success in the field of education.
During the Teachers’ Day celebrations, the Chief Minister reflected on the crucial role of educators in society, emphasizing the need to honour teachers daily, not just on special occasions. He acknowledged the challenges his government has faced, including the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters like Glacial Lake Outburst Floods, but expressed pride in the educational reforms accomplished since the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) assumed power in 2019.
Among the key achievements highlighted by CM Tamang was the resolution of the ad-hoc teachers’ issue, some of whom had worked for nearly two decades without job security. The government introduced an eight-year policy to regularize these positions, providing educators with stability and dignity.
The Chief Minister credited the collective efforts of teachers, students, and government initiatives for the advancements in Sikkim’s education sector, marking significant progress despite the challenges faced.
