Assam: Violence Erupts in Silchar as Football Fans Attacked, Over 20 Injured
Guwahati, September 6, 2024 — Violence broke out in Silchar, Assam, on Wednesday night when a group of unidentified miscreants attacked supporters of a local football tournament. The incident occurred after the second semi-final match of the Matribhumi Cup, where the truck carrying players and fans of the Nazia Enterprise team from Lailapur was ambushed.
The attack took place in the Bhaga Bazar area, with the assailants pelting stones at the truck. The driver was struck in the head, causing the vehicle to lose control and resulting in injuries to over 20 people.
Authorities have confirmed that two individuals are in critical condition and are receiving urgent medical attention. Police have launched an investigation into the incident, but no arrests have been made so far.
