Suspect Arrested in Child Sexual Assault Case in Arunachal Pradesh
Northeast Desk, 6th September: A coordinated effort between police forces across state and district boundaries has led to the arrest of a suspect in a troubling child sexual assault case in Arunachal Pradesh. The investigation was initiated by the Itanagar Women Police Station (WPS) on September 3, following a complaint about the assault of a 10-year-old girl.
The incident, which occurred on August 31, was reported when the victim’s mother noticed her daughter’s discomfort and sought medical help. Medical examination confirmed the sexual assault, revealing that the girl had been lured by an unidentified man offering chips.
A case was registered under ITA WPS Case No. 45/2024, invoking Section 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, and Section 4 of the POCSO Act. Inspector Nich Rupa led the investigation, with a special team formed under the supervision of the SP Capital.
The investigation team, through witness interviews and CCTV analysis, identified the suspect as a labourer from Naharlagun who had fled the area. Despite an initial raid in Lakhimpur on September 5 being unsuccessful, further intelligence led the team to Yomcha in West Siang district. With the assistance of West Siang Police, the suspect was apprehended.
The SP Capital commended the dedication of the officers involved, underscoring the police force’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable individuals, especially children.
