Assam: Dhubri Journalists and Postal Department Honor Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on 98th Birth Anniversary
Guwahati, 8th September: The District Bartajibi Sangha and District Press Club, under the District Joint Forum of Journalists, paid heartfelt tribute to the legendary musician Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on his 98th birth anniversary in Dhubri on September 8. The commemoration took place at the bust of the Bharat Ratna awardee, located along the serene banks of the Brahmaputra River.
The event saw participation from local journalists, residents, and employees of the Dhubri Postal Department, all coming together to honor the “Sudhakantha.” Jitendra Nath Das, a Postal Department employee, paid homage by singing one of Hazarika’s iconic songs. He also garlanded the bust with flowers and lit an incense lamp as a mark of respect.
In addition, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid his own tribute to the legendary figure. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Sarma wrote, “The music of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika transcends all barriers! His songs radiate the message of justice, harmony and brotherhood. Today on his Jayanti, we pay homage to the Bard of Brahmaputra.”
Dr. Hazarika’s music continues to inspire, bridging divides and spreading the message of unity and peace, as reflected in the tributes paid across the state.
