IIT Guwahati Student Found Dead in Suspected Suicide, Second Tragedy in a Month

Guwahati, 9th September: In a tragic incident, Bimlesh Kumar, a third-year B. Tech Computer Science student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, was found dead in his room at Brahmaputra Hostel on Monday morning. The 21-year-old student, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, is suspected to have died by suicide, though authorities are awaiting the results of a post-mortem to confirm the cause of death.

Kumar was discovered unresponsive in his hostel room, leading to an immediate police investigation. While the reasons behind his death remain unclear, the incident has shaken the campus community.

This marks the second suspected suicide at IIT Guwahati within a month. Earlier, on August 9, Saumya, an M. Tech student, also from Uttar Pradesh, was found dead in her room at Disang Hostel under similar circumstances.

These back-to-back incidents have raised serious concerns about the mental health of students at the prestigious institute. There have been increasing calls for enhanced counseling services and support systems to address the growing mental health challenges. Authorities are working closely with the police to investigate the situation.
