Assam’s 5000-Seat Convention Centre Aims to Boost Guwahati’s Global Standing

Guwahati, 13th September: Assam is building one of Eastern India’s largest convention centres, with a seating capacity of 5,000, in a move to position Guwahati as a prime venue for national and international exhibitions. The project is expected to be completed by early 2025.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, after inspecting the progress, expressed his vision for the facility on social media, stating that this development will help make Guwahati a preferred destination for major events.

This convention centre also aims to reduce dependence on other venues like the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM). Sarma has criticized USTM’s construction practices, claiming that they have harmed Guwahati’s landscape and accused the university of promoting ‘Jihad.’ He defended his past visit to USTM, clarifying that it was at the request of Jayanta Baruah during an event with former President Ram Nath Kovind.
