National Desk, 15th September: In a surprising political move, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal announced on September 15 that he would step down from his position within two days. Kejriwal, addressing the media, stated that he would not resume his role as Chief Minister until he regains the public’s trust.
“I am going to resign after two days. I ask the people whether I am honest; till they respond, I won’t sit on the CM’s chair,” Kejriwal declared, signaling his intent for a public “trial by fire” following his recent time in jail.
The AAP leader also revealed that discussions are already underway within the party to identify his successor. Kejriwal further called for early elections in Delhi, suggesting that polls, originally scheduled for February, be advanced to November to coincide with Maharashtra’s elections.
This announcement follows a recent Supreme Court ruling, where Kejriwal was granted bail in the Delhi excise policy case. However, the court imposed several restrictions, including barring him from entering the Chief Minister’s office and signing official documents.
